Bed Pictures 1995-1999 is an in-depth exploration of a single subject: a king-sized pine bed covered with white sheets. The majority of the images are abstracted forms created by the sheets on the bed, almost all of which are non-referential as to the viewer’s position in the frame or their relative size to the object. These images serve to highlight the unexpected beauty of this commonplace item and reveal a carefully observed subject through attention to the detailed nuances of the bed and the sheets. The ephemeral patterns on the bed, revealed by light and shadow, also serve as reminders of the loss of physical presence in the photo. There are approximately 30 images in this series, all of which are printed as gelatin silver prints, measuring 15 by 15 inches on 16 by 20 paper, printed by the artist on Kodak Ektalure paper. This series is not editioned, however each image has no more than five copies printed. Kodak discontinued their Ektalure line in 1998 thereby limiting the number of available photographs.
